Lake-side lounging in the Florence area
Bilancino and Renai, two lakes immersed in large green spaces a few kilometers from Florence, where you can swim, do water sports, and discover their villages.
Do you want to freshen up? A few kilometers from Florence there is the solution for you! Two beautiful lakes surrounded by nature: the first is the large Bilancino Lake in Barberino di Mugello; a perfect day to cool off, visit the village of Barberino and taste the Mugellani tortelli. And the Renai Lake in Signa (if you want a handcrafted straw hat you're in the right place!), really a stone's throw from Florence!
Lake Bilancino
Lake Bilancino is an artificial lake that extends for five square kilometers and is located just outside the Barberino di Mugello motorway exit, about thirty km from Florence. We advise you to reach it by car along Via Bolognese and continuing towards the Futa Pass to enjoy a splendid panorama. The lake was originally created as a water reserve, to solve water problems in the area and stem possible floods or droughts. Today, however, it represents the perfect place for those who want to do water sports, swim, sunbathe, go sailing or simply relax in the splendid natural setting of Mugello.
If you are a sportsman you will surely find the activity that's right for you: competitive fishing, canoeing, sailing, windsurfing, just to name a few. In the "Bahia Beach" area, you will find an open-air restaurant that serves both lunch and dinner, with a spectacular terrace equipped with rental of deckchairs, umbrellas and pedal boats for excursions in the middle of the lake.
Lago dei Renai
Lake Renai, very close to Florence, is part of the Renai Park complex in Signa. The ideal, in fact, is to reach the park from Florence by bike along the wonderful cycle path along the Arno which starts from the Cascine Park (right from Viale Abramo Lincoln, shortly after entering the park). It takes half an hour!
At Lago dei Renai you can choose from the many activities available: sailing, swimming, climbing, beach volleyball, and a lunch in the park's chiringuito. The lake offers a plethora of kid-friendly activities and is therefore ideal for a fun and adventurous family day. Beyond the lake itself, Renai is part of a protected WWF nature reserve!
