Florence Marathon: 42 km of passion and beauty

The Florence Marathon is one of the most important running races in Italy and attracts thousands of participants from all over the world every year. It takes place in the heart of Florence and offers runners a fascinating route, among the most evocative on the international scene: marathon runners pass through iconic places such as the Duomo, the Ponte Vecchio and Piazza della Signoria. The race, usually held at the end of November, combines the athletic challenge with the beauty of the Renaissance city, offering a unique experience for both those who run and those who watch. In addition to the main 42.195 km race, the event includes side activities and shorter routes, making the Florence Marathon a sports festival that celebrates art, culture and the passion for running.
A marathon in art
We run in art since 1984 is the slogan of the Florence Marathon. The route, 42.195 km long, is famous not only for its difficulty but also for the extraordinary historical and artistic beauty that surrounds it: it crosses the streets of the center of Florence, touching monuments such as the Basilica of Santa Croce, the Pitti Palace, and the majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. This unique mix of sport and culture makes the marathon a special experience for participants and an exciting spectacle for spectators.
The 2024 edition
The Florence Marathon, which will take place on November 24, 2024, reaches its fortieth edition this year! In all these years, registrations have increased constantly and now exceed 9000, making it one of the most important marathons in Italy and Europe and among the first in the world for the quality of the organization and the route (without differences in altitude as per the regulations).
Half Marathon and other races in Florence
During the year, within the same project, other races are organized in the city.
- the HALF MARATHON: a non-competitive 10.5km race open to all which usually takes place in spring.
- the NIGHT CELITAR OF SAN GIOVANNI: a historic race (one of the oldest in Italy born in 1938) and is organized in conjunction with the Patron Saint of the city, San Giovanni. The race takes place at night and includes a competitive route of 10 km and a non-competitive route of 4 km.
- CORRI LA VITA: a charity race that has taken place at the end of September since 2003. All the funds raised are donated to public health facilities in Florence specialized in the fight against breast cancer and to voluntary bodies that provide care to the sick. It is a very heartfelt and well-attended event, a meeting place for the whole city.
