Live music returns to Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino

We've waited for what has felt like an eternity for so many aspects of life to open back up again, and live music was undoubtedly one of the most missed.

As performers, conductors and musicians take to the stage once again at Florence's much-loved Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino at piazzale Vittorio Gui 1, there's great emotion for all in attendance. Home to the orchestra and choir of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, savour the sound of strings and symphonies with their highly-anticipated programme.

Joy abounds as the stage is filled once more

While we've appreciated the live streams, digital content, and endlessly innovative ways of bringing music to our homes throughout this time, there really is nothing like the experience of being seated with fellow fans, and the excitement of seeing some of the world's leading musicians take to the stage and fill the spectacular setting with remarkable sounds, creating memories to last a lifetime.

Designed by the architect Paolo Desideri and furnished with truly top-class acoustics, the elegant, futuristic house of Florentine music was inaugurated on December 21, 2011 with Beethoven conducted by Zubin Mehta. With seats for up to 1,800, including stalls, boxes and a gallery, the theater was even awarded the National Award for Best Architecture in 2014.

Not only a site for audiences and performers, the theater also hosts the Accademia del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, allowing talented young people to enter the glittering world of life in the opera house. Workshops, tours and shows for schools ensure that the younger generation is introduced to the magic of classical too.

The striking exterior

Upcoming performances are set to include Verdi performed by Russian soprano Anna Netrebko on June 27, Beethoven with German violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann on June 20, Milanese Gianandrea Noseda conducts orchestral works by Witold Lutos?awski and Modest Musorgskij on July 15, La Forza del Destino from June 4-19 will be truly unmissable with Verdi's masterpiece being conducted by Zubin Mehta, a regular star at the Maggio. Siberia by Umberto Giordano will fill the theatre with glorious sounds from July 7-24, and finally, the highly acclaimed conductor Zubin Mehta will be on the podium on dates throughout June with works by Brahms.
