Giunti Odeon bookshop-cinema: Florence’s new home for literature and films
Discover the new look of the oldest cinema in Florence, located in the Renaissance Palazzo dello Strozzino.
On the lookout for charming and unique places to see in Florence? Look no further than the Giunti Odeon bookshop-cinema. It can be found in the fifteenth-century Palazzo degli Strozzini, located in Piazza Strozzi, whose façade is attributed to Michelozzo. On-site, the historic Odeon cinema has been screening films since the 1920s.
Giunti Odeon Bookshop-Cinema
This unique cinema-theatre, which has seen generations of Florentines pass through its doors, reopened in late 2023 following a few months of closure, presenting a new look and the merging of Giunti (the famous Florentine publishing house founded in 1956) and the Odeon. The restoration carried out by the Florence-based Benaim studio retained many architectural elements, such as the fountains, the decorations on the columns, the tapestries and the dome, restoring them to their former glory.
The stalls on the ground floor have left space for dozens of bookshelves (1200 meters of shelving), where you can get lost searching for an inspiring read. The upper floor has remained unchanged, with the horseshoe-shaped gallery and boxes offering a comfortable place to settle in to watch films (in original language with subtitles!). See the full programme.
The library cinema has a true Florentine character, where you can indulge in various cultural delights.
