Ever heard of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino? May is the month of music in Florence! The world-renowned almost centenary festival of operas and concerts kick starts the season of wonderful live music festival and performances that will fill Florence with international artists and magical nights: Firenze Rocks, Musart Festival and many more.

It’s the perfect month to enjoy long, mild days, attending an extraordinary concert and discovering Florence and its surroundings. Sticking with the theme, our advice as is to enjoy a lovely walk to the Amphitheater at the large Cascine Park, created in the seventies from a sand quarry and now a stage for many shows and concerts under the stars. A few steps away is also the Visarno Hippodrome, home of the Firenze Rocks and many other major events.

Puccini's Operas – from May 3 to June 8

If you’re an opera enthusiast, you’ll already know the greatest Italian composer of all time, the Tuscan-born Giacomo Puccini. If you’re visiting Florence in May, you’ll have the chance to experience an utterly unique performance of Turandot (until May 3) and Tosca (from May 24) at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale.

I Poeti del Piano Solo 5th Edition – from May 9 to 12

I Poeti del Piano Solo returns to Florence. The festival dedicated to passionate piano performances, organized by Musicus Concentus, takes place in exclusive locations that express the beauty of Florence such as the Sala Vanni in the religious complex in Piazza del Carmine and the Opera del Duomo Museum. For the 5th edition, the Belvedere Terrace of the Bardini Gardens has been added, one of the most stunning panoramic points in the city.

Impruneta Kids Festival – from May 24 to 26

May is the ideal time to visit Impruneta, the famous terracotta village. If you’re with little ones, Impruneta Kids Festival is just the thing! The innovative cultural event dedicated to children aged 0 to 10 is designed to get them involved through cinema, books, theatre and music.
