As part of Estate Fiorentina 2024, the “Franco Basaglia 100 Festival” celebrates 100 years since the birth of Italian psychiatrist and neurologist Franco Basaglia. From June 2 to August 15, more than 30 events curated by the Chille de la Balanza Cooperative Society will be held in San Salvi and the Luzi, CaNova and Chiarugi Libraries.

The festival presents a rich program of events, including theatrical performances, book presentations and film screenings. Unpublished productions and presentations are curated by Chille de la Balanza, Stabile Trieste, T. Cooperativa di Milano, Sognando, Teatro Selve, Astràgali and Officine Papage. The events will also involve leading psychiatric experts, continuing the work begun with the “Asylum, Goodbye!” festival held in March.

This tribute to Basaglia not only celebrates his figure, but also offers an opportunity to reflect on his revolutionary impact in the field of psychiatry and his ideas for humanizing psychiatric treatment.
