EVENT DESCRIPTION:
The Museo Novecento presents “Louise Bourgeois in Florence,” an extraordinary exhibition that will bring the works of French-American artist Louise Bourgeois to the Tuscan city for the first time. Two exceptional exhibitions, “Do Not Abandon Me” at the Museo Novecento and “Cell XVIII (Portrait)” at the Museo degli Innocenti, will offer the public an opportunity to immerse themselves in the artist's emotional and conceptual world.

Curated by Philip Larratt-Smith and Sergio Risaliti in collaboration with The Easton Foundation, the exhibition presents a selection of nearly one hundred works, including gouaches, sculptures and works on paper, offering an in-depth look at the theme of motherhood and human relationships in Bourgeois' artistic practice. The exhibition title “Do Not Abandon Me” recalls Bourgeois' lifelong fear of abandonment, which is reflected in the mother-child dyad, a central element that permeates her work. The exhibition explores the complex relationship between fragility, dependence and the desire for security represented by the maternal image, offering the public a unique emotional and conceptual experience.
