Did you know that Florence is home to a Japanese garden?
Yes, it’s true: it’s a small gem within a larger and equally fascinating treasure trove, the Rose Garden.
The Rose Garden was created by the architect Giuseppe Poggi employing the style of Romantic 19th century gardens; it’s located on the ridge underlying Piazzale Michelangelo.
From the garden, you can take in a breathtaking view over Florence and wander through the magnificent roses of varied species, also noting the “dreaming” statues on the way by the Belgian sculptor Folon. And yes, within it, you’ll find a green space in pure Japanese style, a Shorai oasis given to Florence by its twin city Kyoto.
It’s a Japanese corner worth discovering, one you can access at no cost throughout the whole year.
