" When I want to get out from the historic center, without going too far, I take a nice walk along Costa San Giorgio. It's uphill (the "coasts" in Florence are sloping streets) and the climb can be tiring, but the beauty of the place is worth the struggle.
The itinerary starts from Santa Felicità square (Piazza di Santa Felicita), located near Ponte Vecchio, in the Oltrarno district. From here you must go ahead for a few hundred meters and along the street you’ll find so many places of interest: like the House of Galileo Galilei (where he actually lived only for very short time) and the entrance to the wonderful Bardini Garden, in my opinion the most beautiful one! At the end of the road you’ll pass under the Porta di San Giorgio (with a bas-relief representing the saint who kills the dragon) and you’ll find yourself at the entrance of the Forte di Belvedere. Here, you’ll be at the crossroad with the Via di Belvedere that comes down along the ancient Arnolfian walls. Need more motivation? "
